Welcome to the End of the Year Poetry Competition! This year, there will not be a set theme. You can write and submit a poem about a topic of your choice to the media center any time between May 8th and May 27th.
-
Rhyming, free verse, haiku, and concrete poems will be accepted.
-
Poems will be judged on Originality, Creative Use of Language, and Flow.
-
One submission per student. You must include your first and last name, homeroom teacher, and grade level on the paper or digital entry.
The last day to turn in entries is May 27th. The top three poetry entries from each grade will be announced by June 6th. Winners will receive a prize pack from the library, and if they agree to it, their poems will be displayed in the library’s display case. This year, everyone who enters will have his or her name entered into a participation drawing and three additional winners will receive a small participation prize.
Poems should be submitted to Ms. McKinney or Ms. Schwarz in the media center by the end of the school day on May 27th. You can submit paper copies by handing them in at the media center or you can share a digital copy with Ms. McKinney ([email protected]). Again, please make sure you put your first and last name, homeroom teacher, and grade level on the paper or digital copy! If you need to make a physical paper copy using a copier, please speak with Ms. McKinney.
Have fun writing!
